Notes from the Rust Belt

Notes from the Rust Belt The Ruhr area used to be the heart of Germany's heavy industry. With the decline of coal mining and steel production in the last decades of the 20th century it suffered a fate similar to the American rust belt. Hence the title. Luckily quite a few of the mining facilities, blast furnaces and steel mills have been well taken care of and some have been turned into museums, preserving the history and industrial heritage of the area. I see this series as kind of a sketchbook of scenes showing the atmosphere and character of this intriguing industrial landscape in transition.
